Have you noticed how our generation, in a general sense, does not want to be under authority? How many times have you spoken with someone or read a news story where someone declared their right to live like they want with no concept of God? This worldview has run rampant in our society and for good reason - we just do not want anyone to tell us how we should live. We want to live life the way we want to.

God created us to know Him and because of sin we went our own way. The Bible tells us that we were bought at a price (1 Cor. 6:20) by God and that He has called us to follow Him (Matt. 4:19). When Jesus' followers began to call themselves "slaves of Jesus Christ", they knew they were signing up for a commitment of their lives. They knew that either they would follow the way of sin and death or of righteousness and life. The latter was the force of the idea behind considering themselves slaves. This word is much stronger than simply the word "servant" which many translations of the Bible use to avoid the cultural stigma of "slave". But it does not do the idea justice - "slave" provides us with the seriousness of following Jesus that each of us needs as we get up each day and decide if we will obey God or not.

Will you choose to be a slave of God today? Will you choose to be a serious disciple and commit every decision to Him and His will? He loves you so much and wants peace and life; not confusion and death. Willingly and voluntarily submit to Him and see how He will care for you as His own.
